⚾ HHS splits at Washburn Rural

TOPEKA – The Hays High baseball team split their doubleheader with Washburn Rural Tuesday, winning game one 4-1 and dropping the nightcap 5-4. The Indians are now 5-1 on the season. They continue Western Athletic Conference play Friday when they host Garden City in a doubleheader at Hays High School.

Cooper Johnson picked up the complete game victory. The junior allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

The Indians did all of their scoring in the first three innings. Carter Graham led off the second with a triple and scored an a Jack Weimer groundout. Hays scored three in the third, all with two outs. Lex Lummus started the rally with a single, Carter Graham walked, Jack Wiemer then tripled to right center driving in both base runners. Jonathan Cano followed with a single to drive in Weimer.

Game 2: Washburn Rural 5, Hays 4
The Junior Blues rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win.

The Indians scored single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings and led 4-2 entering the final inning.

The loss goes to Ian McGuire. Brendan Stults allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Tanner Boxberger pitched two innings of relief and allowed two runs on two hits.
