Anna Elizabeth “Betty” Ostrom, 88, Hays, died Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Rush County Memorial Hospital.
She was born February 14, 1934, in Victoria, the daughter of Leroy Richard and Caroline (Paulsen) Martin. Betty was a graduate of Hays High School, worked at Travenol, and was a waitress at numerous restaurants throughout Hays and for many years at the Holiday Inn. On August 7, 1954, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Bryan Ostrom in Hays. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2010. She was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, the Hays VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a volunteer at the Hays Senior Center. Her hobbies included playing Bingo and watching gameshows and KU basketball. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and was talented at drawing and sketching.
Survivors include her son: Mitchell Ostrom of Ellis, two daughters: Denise Johnson and husband Dennis of Hays and Merilee Lutey and husband Bill of Salina, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, a son: Marshall Ostrom, two daughters: Deborah Klaus and infant Dena Marie Ostrom, one brother, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with The Rev. Shay Craig officiating. Burial will follow in Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in WaKeeney. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the funeral home.
