Melvin Joseph 'Mel' Basgall

Melvin Joseph “Mel” Basgall, 79, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Mel was born November 5, 1942, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Bruno and Angela (Sanders) Basgall. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1960 graduate of Victoria High School, Kansas, Mel furthered his education receiving an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Barton County Community College, Great Bend, and his Master’s Degree in Psychology from Fort Hays State University.  Mel was a drug and alcohol counselor for CKF Addiction Treatment in Salina, then Smoky Hill Foundation for Chemical Dependency Inc., Hays, before his retirement.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas; and the ISIS Shrine, Salina.

He was a United States Air Force veteran.

On March 3, 1973, he married Jametta Peters at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse. 

Survivors include:  his wife, Jametta Basgall, La Crosse, Kansas; his children, Todd  Basgall, La Crosse, Kansas, Tonya Basgall, La Crosse, Kansas, Cory Morgan, Great Bend, Kansas, Mike Basgall, Oregon, and Brad Basgall, Texas; nine grandchildren, Jamie Basgall, Jerrod Morgan (Carrie), Jeremy Morgan (Amanda), Amanda Beard (Logan), Kaitlyn Hunter, Alexis Morgan, Kolin Basgall, Adria Morgan, and C J Morgan; five great grandchildren, Brantley Morgan, Blaze Morgan, Rylie Morgan, Jo Ann Beard, and Avori Morgan; and two sisters, Norma Basgall (Steve), Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kay Guffey (John), McPherson, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kevin Basgall; one daughter, Leslie Morgan; one great grandson, Michael Morgan; and one brother, Ken Basgall.

Memorial service will be Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka officiating.  Inurnment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family request memorials to CKF Addication Treatment, Salina, Kansas, or the La Crosse Country Club, La Crosse, Kansas.
