Hays Post honored with 6 Kansas Press Association awards

The staff of Hays Post and Eagle Radio of Hays collectively earned six awards in the 2024 Kansas Press Association Awards of Excellence contest.

Cristina Janney, Hays Post editor, and James Bell, former reporter, earned a first-place award in Solutions Journalism for their work to cover efforts to improve the quality of child care and increase the number of child care spots in Ellis County.

Janney also earned a second-place honor for Headline Writing and a third-place award for Feature Writing for the story "Kansas inmate's path to freedom leads through Gift of Chess."

Bell also won a third-place award in News Writing for "Native American education lacking in Kansas schools says recent FHSU speaker."

Jordan Schaffer won a second-place award for Online Static Ad for a Morning Blend promotion and a third-place award for Best Online Ad, motion for a sports promotion.

Hays Post, one of a handful of digital-only KPA members, competes against the largest publications in the state of Kansas, including the Wichita Eagle, Kansas City Star, the Kansas Reflector and Topeka Capital Journal.
