NEWTON - The Hays Larks score 10 runs in the final two innings to blow open a tight game and beat the Newton Rebels 14-1 in eight innings Sunday evening at Klein-Scott Field.
Newton grabbed the early lead with a run in the first, the Larks (7-0) answered with two in the fourth on a single from Fort Hays State's Dylan Haselhorst. The Larks added two in the sixth on a Dylan LaRue leadoff homer and an error.
Hays blew the game open with five in the seventh and five more in the eighth. LaRue had a RBI double and Haselhorst an two-run single. Trent Baker added and RBI single.
Former TMP-Marian Monarch Carson Liles started the scoring in the eighth with an RBI single, Haselhorst added a RBI single, Baker was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Rayner Beene closed out the scoring with a run-scoring double.
TMP-Marian junior Ty Schmeidler allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts and three walks over four innings and picked up the win.
Dylan Haselhorst had three of the Larks 15 hits, all singles, and drove in five runs. Trent Baker, Cooper Holorf, Rayner Beene, Dylan LaRue all had two hits with Baker and LaRue both driving in two runs.
The Larks return to action Tuesday at home against the Gameday Angels.
