🏊 HHS' Schmidt top-three in two events at state swim meet

LENEXA - Hays High's Izbel Schmidt placed second in the 50 yard freestyle and third in the 100 yard freestyle in Saturday's final day of the 5-1A state Swimming and Diving Championships at the Shawnee Mission School District Aquatic Center.

Schmidt had a time of 24.41 in the 50 yard freestyle finals, better than her 24.54 preliminary time. Hillsboro sophomore Lauryn Vogt tied the state record time of 23.77 to win the event.

In the 100 yard freestyle, Schmidt had a time of 53.22 which was better than the 53.73 in the prelims. McPherson senior Danica Brunk finsihed first (52.77). Topeka Seaman senior Avery Walz finished second (53.17).

Hays High freshman Jaylen Hughes finished 16th in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 59.63. She had a time of 58.36 in Friday's prelims to qualify for the finals.

Schmidt and Hughes were also on the the Indians 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle relay teams that both placed  placed 11th along with Lucy Tippy and Brecklyn Wahlmeier.
