DODGE CITY – The Hays High softball team finished off a three-game Western Athletic Conference sweep of Dodge City. After beating the Red Demons 4-2 on Tuesday in Hays, the Indians won 10-4 and 13-3 Thursday in Dodge City.
HHS is now 3-2 on the season. They host Garden City Tuesday in a single game at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex.
Game 1: Hays 10, Dodge City 4 The Indians scored a run in the first inning then five in the second to take control. D Schmidt scored the first run when Dani Willeford reached on an error. Riley Dreher and Lakyn Zimmerman hit back to back home runs to highlight the five-run second. Dreher’s was three-run shot.
Dreher added an RBI double in the fourth to push the HHS lead to 7-0.
Zimmerman added another solo homer in the sixth.
Jaylee Summers had three of Hays High’s 13 hits. Dreher finished with four RBIs and also picked up the win in the circle. The junior allowed one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
Game 2: Hays 13, Dodge City 3 (5 innings) The Indians scored four runs in the first innings, three in the second then six in the third in the run-rule victory. Lakyn Zimmerman drove in the first run on a base hit to left field then after two walks, Brynlee Brous doubled to right which drove in two more runs.
Following a walk and single from Lauren Klein, Dani Willeford doubled to center which drove in two runs and pushed the HHS lead to 6-1. Zimmerman tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly.
The first six Hays’ batters walked to open the third. Riley Dreher drove in two more with a double.
Dezarae Schmidt had two of the Indians seven hits. Willeford and Brous both drove in three runs.
Jaylee Summers picked up the complete game win allowing one earned run on five this with two strikeouts and two walks.
