James 'Jim' C. Knapp

James “Jim” C. Knapp, age 80, of WaKeeney, Kansas passed away Friday, October 29, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS. He was born July 15, 1941, in Bird City, Kansas to Charles and Mildred (Phipps) Knapp. On January 6, 1968, he married Patricia (Patti) Ann Whisler.

Jim worked as an actuarial accountant for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas in Topeka, KS. He enjoyed collecting die-cast John Deere tractors, doing puzzles and playing solitaire, watching John Wayne and Hallmark movies, and watching his special WaKeeney “granddaughters” Libby and Adele in their sports and other school events. 

He is survived by two daughters, Jamie (Brian) Slawson and Heidi (Jeff) McDaniel of Topeka; two brothers, Tim (Janice) Knapp of Atwood, KS; and Tom Knapp of Olathe, KS; a sister Gay (Merle) Kruse of Sheridan, WY; two sisters-in-law Glenda Knapp of Hays, KS and Joyce Ross of Lincoln, NE; a brother-in-law Larry Manz and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Patti; a brother, Doran (Corky) Knapp; a sister, Mary Stephens; three sisters-in-law, Renee Knapp, Betty Manz, Dee Yost; three brothers-in-law John Stephens, Bill Ross; John Yost, niece Lisa Knapp, and nephew Ryan Knapp. 

Funeral services will be held at Presbyterian Church of WaKeeney, 332 N. 6th St., WaKeeney KS, at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 4.  Arrangements in care of Schmitt Funeral Home 336 N. 12th St, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
