HAYS - The Hays High baseball team had no problem with Liberal on Friday at the Hays High Field. The Indians won game one 10-0 then won the second contest 15-2. Both games ended early because of run-rule.
The Indians improve to 10-2 overall and close out Western Athletic Conference play with a 6-2 record. The Indians are a half-game back of Dodge City who beat Great Bend 7-4 Friday. The Red Demons close out league play May 11 vs. Liberal.
The Indians play Manhattan at 1:00 p.m. and Great Bend at 7:45 p.m. Friday in the Western Plains Diamond Classic.
Game 1: Hays 10, Liberal 0 (6 innings)
The Indians scored two in the first and that was all starting pitcher Dylan Dreiling needed. Dreiling didn't allow a hit while striking out 10 over five innings of work. Carson Spray worked a scoreless fifth.
The Indians added two runs in the third then five in the fourth.
Dreiling and Dominic Bainter both had three hits and drove in two runs.
Game 2: Hays 15, Liberal 2 (5 innings)
The Indians nearly batted around twice in the bottom of the first, scoring 12 runs. They added two in the second and one in the fourth.
Six of the Indians 11 hits were for extra bases including a triple from Dylan Dreiling. Ben Krannawitter, Dawson VonFeldt, Garrett Wellbrock, Dominica Bainter, Dalton Dale and Jack Fields all doubled.
VonFeldt, Dreiling and Bainter all had two hits. Bainter drove in four and Fields added two RBIs.
Starter Garrett Wellbrock pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Dalyn Schwarz allowed one run on six hits over two innings and picked up the win. Jack Field gave up a run on one hit in one inning of relief.
