Larry Dechant, 71, died Monday, August 9, 2021, at his home in Garden
City, Kansas. He was born November 9, 1949, in Garden City, Kansas the
son of Manuel & Elizabeth “Betty” (Pfeiffer) Dechant.
Larry has been a lifetime resident of Garden City. He attended
Garden City schools and graduated form Garden City High School. He
served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from March of
1970 to October of 1971. Larry was the owner and operator of Dechant
Retail Liquor in Garden City for 14 years. He then worked for many
years as a groundskeeper for USD #457 until his retirement.
Survivors include four sisters Betty Heath of Leoti, Kansas,
Rosemary Wasinger of Scott City, Kansas, Joyce York of Ft. Worth, Texas,
& Debra Robinson of Holcomb, Kansas; two brothers Ronald Dechant of
Garden City, Kansas and James “Jake” Dechant of Garden City, Kansas;
and many nieces and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Alex
Dechant and Ken Dechant; and two sisters Linda Sinclair and Evelyn
Berning.
A private family interment will take place at a later date at
Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with military graveside rites
conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard. There will be
no calling hours.
