William "Bill" Dean Brungardt, age 75, of Hays, Kansas passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021. He was born February 22, 1946 in Hays to Sylvester and Beatrice (Karlin) Brungardt. Bill graduated from St. Joseph’s Military Academy in 1964 and became a diesel mechanic through US Trade School. On November 7, 1964 he married Beverly Schmeidler at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hays.
Bill was a Shop Mechanic for Permian Corporation for 32 years and then drove a crude truck for them. He then went to work for Coffeyville Resources as a truck driver retiring in 2006. He was known to be a Jack of all trades including woodworking and refinishing and refurbishing cars. He was also an avid reader and listened to old country and western music.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; a son, Shane Brungardt (Coleen) of Shawnee, Kansas; a daughter, Julie Johnston (Eric) of Overland Park, Kansas; three brothers, P.J. Karlin of Lawrence, Kansas, Terrence Brungardt (Karen) of Overland Park, Lionel "Bud" Brungardt (Linda) of Great Bend, Kansas; a sister, Donna Kaberlein (Don) of Olathe, Kansas and three grandchildren, Noah Johnston, El Brungardt and Kara Brungardt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Joshua Johnston.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Daise officiating. Services will be live streamed on the Keithley Funeral Homes Facebook page and may be seen by going to www.keithleyfuneralchapels.com and selecting the Facebook Live tab.
Visitation will be Tuesday 5 PM - 8 PM with a Catherine Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 PM followed by a parish vigil service all at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS.
For those attending the family requests all to wear face masks due to Covid concerns.
