Showers overnight bring moisture; more rain chances today

Hays received about .25 inches of rain as of 8 a.m. this morning, according to measurements taken at the Eagle Media Center, 2300 Hall.

This is the first moisture Hays received during May. The city receives an average of 3.33 inches of rain by the end of May.

Hays has received about 5.94 inches of rain year to date compared to a yearly average of 7.92 inches by the end of May.

The forecast calls for a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon, with chances of more rain, 20 to 30%, overnight.

New rainfall amounts are expected to be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. Higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast calls for a 30% chance of showers after 1 p.m. Thursday. Then the skies will clear and be sunny with highs in the 70s through Sunday.
