BUCYRUS, Kan. – The Hays High baseball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday, defeating Heritage Christian Academy 13-4 and 10-5 at the Virginia Sue Field of Dreams south of Olathe. The Indians have won three straight and are 8-2 on the season. They are back at home Friday for a doubleheader against Liberal at the Hays High Field.
Game 1: Hays 13, HCA 4
The Indians used a three-run third inning to break open a 2-2 game. Garrett
Wellbrock was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and scored on Dalton Dale’s
double. Dominic Bainter followed with a double to score Dale. Dalyn Schwarz
later added a two-out double to drive in Bainter.
The Chargers scored two in the fourth to pull within 6-4 but the Indians got a run in the sixth and six in the seventh. Ben Krannawitter, Dylan Dreiling and Dalton Dale all had RBI doubles in the final inning.
Dale finished 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBIs. Bainter went 4-for-5 and drove in five.
Dale allowed four runs over four innings with two strikeouts and five walks and picked up the win. Dreling pitched three hitless innings and got the save.
Game 2: Hays 11, HCA 5
The Indians scored seven in the top of the first inning and stayed in control
the rest of the way. Dawon VonFeldt had two hits including a double and drove
in two runs.
VonFeldt pitched allowed two earned runs on six hits over five innings of relief and picked up the win. Starter Dominic Bainter allowed on earned run on four hits over two innings.
