HAYS โ The TMP-Marian Monarchs run their way streak to 18 straight Monday with a 68-48 win over Smith Center.
Griffin Schumacher opened the game with back-to-back three pointers, scoring nine of his career-high 17 points as the Monarchs (19-2, 11-0 MCL) opened the game on a 10-3 run.
Smith Center (3-18, 1-10 MCL) was able to keep it close early, drawing within four twice, the last time at 12-8 but the Monarchs closed the first quarter with a seven-point lead 21-14.
The Monarchs leaned on 6โ8 big man Dylan Werth in the second quarter as he scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the second quarter. During that stretch he surpassed 1,000 career points helping the Monarchs take a 41-23 lead into the halftime break.
TMP outscored Smith Center 9-2 to start the second half and built a 25-point lead at 50-25.
Smith Center pulled within 18 twice in the fourth quarter before the Monarchs secured the 68-48 victory.
Werth led the way with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Luke Rome added a double-double of his own with 12 points and 13 rebounds and Griffin Schumacher hit five three pointers and finished with 17 points.
TMP will take on Rawlins County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday in Ellis.
