HAYS – On a day when TMP-Marian head coach Melissa Schoepf surpassed the 150-win plateau, the TMP pitching tossed a pair of shutouts in a doubleheader sweep of the Holcomb Longhorns Friday in Hays.
GAME 1: TMP 15, Holcomb 0
In the day's first game, Holcomb's leadoff hitter singled to start the game against TMP starter Brynn Rebel.
Rebel then retired nine straight, and the Monarchs' offense needed just two and a half innings to run-rule Holcomb 15-0.
Hannah Rose started the offense in the bottom of the inning, driving in Rebel with an RBI double after a pitch hit Rebel to start the Monarchs’ first inning.
Brooke Koenigsman added an RBI double scoring Rose for a 2-0 lead.
Koenigsman stole third and scored on a Bria Windholz sacrifice fly to the first basemen, making it 3-0.
Teagan Gottschalk made it 4-0 with an RBI double, and then Addison Watson hit an inside-the-park home run that scored two runs and put TMP up 6-0.
The Monarchs' seventh run of the inning came on an error.
Leading 7-0 in the second inning, Rose led off the inning with a single, and a two-run home run by Brooke Koenigsman made it 9-0 TMP.
Later in the inning, the Monarchs added a run on a Bria Windholz RBI single. Another came on an Addison Watson sacrifice fly to second base for an 11-0 Monarchs lead.
Later in the inning, Teagan Gottschalk scored on a passed ball, and the Moly Helget doubled in two runs, making it 15-0 TMP.
TMP's win over Holcomb was its first since 2021, ending a seven-game losing streak against the Longhorns.
The Monarchs moved to 10-0 on the season.
Brynn Rebel allowed just one run in three innings and struck out seven.
Watson and Brooke Koenigsman drove in three runs as the Monarchs secured the 15-0 victory.
GAME 2: TMP 14, Holcomb 0
The Monarchs got another stellar start from Monarchs’ starter Bria Windholz in the second game of the day.
The Monarchs scored in every inning of game two.
Windholz, who only allowed a fifth inning lead-off single and a walk in the second, earned the win in the circle. She struck out a career-high 11, allowing just three walks in five shutout innings.
She also helped her cause at the plate, driving in a pair of runners on a single in the first, making it 2-0 TMP.
TMP pushed across three more runs for a 2-0 lead. Brook Koenigsman scored on a passed ball, Raegan Allen scored on a fielder’s choice, and Brynn Schoepf scored on a Brynn Rebel single, giving them a 5-0 lead through the first inning.
In the bottom of the second, Koenigsman led off the inning with a walk, and then two hitters later, Windholz tripled in two runs for a 6-0 lead.
After a run scored on an error, TMP led 7-0 when Adi Gottschalk doubled in two more for a 9-0 lead through two innings.
TMP added two more runs in the bottom of the third on an error and a wild pitch for an 11-0 lead.
Bridget Feldt drove in a run on an RBI groundout in the fourth inning. Paige Koenigsman’s RBI single scored his sister Brooke, who then scored on a passed ball for a 14-0 TMP lead.
Bria Windholz finished three-for-three with three RBI. Piper Simpson collected two RBI’s and scored twice.
Coach Melissa Schoepf's record at TMP in 12 years is now 151-92
TMP is 10-0 and 2-0 in the MCL.
They will host Ellis on Monday.
