PARK CITY – Hays High sophomore Sarah Zimmerman earned a second-place finish at 109 pounds at the girls Division I state wrestling tournament Thursday at Hartman Arena in Park City.
Zimmerman opened the tournament with a second-period fall over Kaitlyn Morris over Washburn Rural.
She followed that up with a three-period fall over the number two seed Olivia O’Donnell in the championship semifinals.
In the finals Zimmerman lost an 8-5 decision to top-seed Dialeen French from Wichita North High School.
With the second-place finish Zimmerman is now a two-time state placer for the Indians. She finished sixth a year ago at 109 pounds.
