Cleo Kay Nosekabel

Cleo Kay Nosekabel, 87, Gorham, formerly of Plains, died Saturday, September 25, 2021, at his home.

He was born June 10, 1934, in Malvern, Iowa, the son of Walter Francis and Alice Elizabeth (Duvall) Nosekabel.  He was a 1953 graduate of Randolph High School.  In March 1954, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country until 1957.  For 30 years, Cleo worked as a USDA meat grader, retiring in 1999. He was united in marriage to Janet L. “Jan” Miller on April 28, 2001, in Plains, and on May 7, 2021, Cleo and Jan renewed their wedding vows in a private ceremony in the Catholic Church.  Cleo was a member of the Liberal Bass Masters, Kansas Trap Shooters, NRA, and the Liberal Bowling League.  He played slow pitch baseball, loved the outdoors, and enjoyed fishing, rifle and bow hunting, trap shooting, bird watching, and camping.  Cleo was friendly, always willing to help others, wise, had a hearty laugh, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Jan of Gorham, one son: Michael Nosekabel and wife Carla of Plains, two daughters: Pam Louderback and husband Max of Liberal and Linda Lynn of Plains, two stepsons:  Matt Steen and wife Karen of Dillon, CO and Ryan Steen and wife Audra of Shawnee, one brother: Glen Nosekabel of Kismet, one sister: Peggy Greenwood of Kismet, seven grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and five step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Gene Nosekabel.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm on Friday, October 1, 2021, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW Honor Guard will follow in the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery, WaKeeney.  Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday and from 11:00 am until service time on Friday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
