GREAT BEND - The Hays High softball team jumped out early and defeated Great Bend 8-1 Tuesday at the Great Bend Sports Complex for their second straight win.
The Indians scored two in the first inning and three in the second. Aubree Thomas and Dezarea Schmidt both scored on a wild pitches to get the Indians on the board in the first. Hays scored their three runs in the second on a triple from Schmidt and singles from Riley Dreher and Lakyn Zimmerman who also added a tw0-run double in the sixth.
Schmidt had three hits, two of them triples, Zimmerman added two hits and drove in four runs.
Aubree Thomas picked up the complete game victory. She allowed the one one run on seven hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
Hays High is now 6-3 on the season and 6-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. They close out the three-game series with the Panthers with a doubleheader Thursday at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex.
