PARK CITY – After a second place finish a year ago Hays High junior Harley Zimmerman claimed his first career state title Saturday at 132 pounds at the 5A state championship in Park City.
Zimmerman opened the tournament with a first period fall and technical fall before claiming a 12-0 win in the semifinals.
On Saturday Zimmerman claimed a sudden victory-1 6-4 over Kaden Allen of St. Thomas Aquinas.
Zimmerman finished the season 35-2 and is now a three-time state placer.
He was second as a sophomore at 132 pounds and fourth as a freshman at 126 pounds.
Elijah McCullough earned a sixth place finish at 113 pounds.
He went 2-1 on the first day, losing in the championship finals.
In the consolation semifinals McCullough fell 5-3 to Carlos Leyva of Arkansas City and then dropped the fifth place match to Harrison Glover of Goddard 4-3.
