Fort Hays State Men's Basketball looks to complete an unblemished homestand on Saturday (Feb. 6) when it hosts Central Oklahoma at 2 pm. The men will play the first contest of the day at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Tigers enter the game at 6-8 on the season, while the Bronchos are 7-5.
The men's game with UCO was moved up in front of the women's contest on Saturday out of courtesy to UCO, which travels to St. Joseph, Missouri for a make-up game with Missouri Western on Sunday afternoon. UCO and FHSU will meet again next week on Wednesday (Feb. 10) in Edmond in a game that was postponed earlier this season. That game will be played at 3:30 pm to allow the Tigers travel time and rest for their game at Rogers State the following evening in Claremore.
The Tigers are coming off a 69-64 win over Newman University on Thursday night in Hays. The Tigers have won the first two contests of their current three-game homestand. Jared Vitztum led the Tigers with 25 points and 12 rebounds, his NCAA Division II-leading 8th double-double of the season. He averages 18.4 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Vitztum is now just 22 points from 1,000 in his career as a Tiger.
Kaleb Hammeke (10.8 points per game) and Quinten Rock (11.9 points per game) are among the top 10 assist leaders in the MIAA, Hammeke at 4.0 per game and Rock at 3.9 per game. Alvin Thompson averages 10.6 points per game for the Tigers and had a career-high five assists in the win over Newman on Thursday night.
UCO won the last meeting with FHSU, although FHSU won four straight prior to that. The two meetings between the teams last season ended in nearly identical scores. FHSU won 81-73 in Hays, while UCO won 80-73 in Edmond.
The Bronchos have three players averaging double figures in scoring this season. Camryn Givens leads at 13.4 per game, while Callen Haydon averages right at 13.0 per game. Isaiah Wade adds 11.6 per game. The Bronchos come into Hays on a four-game win streak.
