KHP: Driver ran stop sign, struck Kansas school bus

TREGO COUNTY—Authorities are investigating an accident involving a school bus that occurred just after 7:30a.m. Friday in Trego County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Nissan Altima driven by Migel Garcia, 39, Liberal, was northbound on 120 Road approximately one mile northwest of Collyer.

The driver failed to stop at the stop sign at G Road. The Nissan struck the rear left corner of a westbound 2003 Freightliner bus driven by Kirby J. Mader, 69, of Quinter, for USD 293 in Quinter.

Garcia, Mader and four students ages 4, 8, 15 and 16 on the bus were not injured. Garcia was also not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
