🏀 Monarchs split non-league games with Great Bend

HAYS - The TMP-Marian Monarchs earned a doubleheader split of a pair of non-league games Tuesday night in Hays.

GIRLS: TMP 41, Great Bend 32
TMP (7-5) outscored Great Bend 11-2 to end the first quarter and open the second quarter on their way to a 41-32 victory.

Great Bend (4-9) held on to a 5-2 lead in the first quarter but the Monarchs closed the first quarter and opened the second quarter on a  12-4 run taking a 13-7 lead with 1:46.

Hannah Rose and Claire Schippers each connecting on a three-pointers capping off the Monarchs’ run.

The Monarchs led by as many as six in the second quarter and eight in the third quarter before Great Bend trimmed the lead to three, on back-to-back threes and pulled themselves within 25-22 in the final minutes of the third quarter.

In the final frame the Monarchs’ Gracyn Schippers scored 10 of her game-high 12 points as Monarchs closed out a 41-32 win.

BOYS: Great Bend 68, TMP 41
The Great Bend Panthers (12-1) outscored the Monarchs 13-0 over the first 3 minutes and 45 seconds of the first quarter and maintained the double digit lead on their way to the 68-41 victory.

It took the Monarchs (5-7) until the 3:35 mark of the first quarter to break onto the scoreboard when Will Eck hit the first of nine three pointers on the night for the Monarchs.

Ty Schmeidler added a pair of free throws and a three of his own in the first quarter making it 17-8 but the Panthers quickly extended their lead once again. Great Bend led 25-9 after the first quarter.

Great Bend used a 6-0 run to end the first half and outscored TMP 14-6 to open the second half, for a 20-6 run the put the game out-of-reach for the Monarchs.

Great Bend would go on to secure a 68-41 victory.

TMP’s Caden Dinkel scored nine on three three pointers. Schmeidler added eight points. 

Great Bend’s Ian Premer scored a game-high 25 points.

TMP will host Larned on Friday and Great Bend hosts Hays.
