Charlene Flax, age 78, of Ellis, Kansas, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas. Charlene was born April 23, 1944, in Hays, Kansas, to Martin and Felicitas (Leiker) Klaus. She attended Marian High School in Hays and on October 9, 1965, she married Richard Flax at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hays. He preceded her in death March 6, 2020.
Charlene was a homemaker and a loving mother, and grandmother. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Daughters of Isabella, and a Senior Companion.
She is survived by her three sons, Mark Flax and wife Jackie of Ellis, Gary Flax of Russell and Arlen Flax and wife Rose of Ellis; two brothers, Kenneth Klaus of Salina and Harold Klaus of Olathe; a sister, Ann Augustine of Ellis and three grandchildren, Jarod Flax of Goodland, Braden Flax of Russell and Emma Flax of Ellis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; a sister, Marilyn Flax and three brothers, twin brother Charles ,Joseph and Lester Klaus.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Thursday, June 23, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis with Fr. Dana Clark officiating. Burial will follow services in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday 6 PM - 8 PM and Thursday 9 AM until service time all at the church.
A combined Daughters of Isabella rosary and parish vigil will be Wednesday at the church.
