⛳ Indians third in Great Bend to close out regular season

GREAT BEND – The Hays High boys golf team shot a 357 Thursday at the Great Bend Invitational and finished third in their final tournament of the regular season at the Stoneridge Country Club.

Garden City won the team title with a 305. Dodge City was second with a 332.

Ashton Hernandez had the low round for the Indians with a 85 and placed ninth. Garden City’s Maddix Shook won the individual title with a 1-over-par, 72. Teammate Aaron Allen finished second with a 75. Great Bend’s Scott Heilman was part of a three-way tie with Dodge City’s Cooper Scheck and Aedruc Ortiz of Garden City with a 78.

Other Hays High scores included a 90 by Blake Buckles and 91s from Landen Clark and Braxton Banker.

Hernandez was named 2nd Team All-WAC. Garden City won the WAC team championship. The Buffaloes Theo Juhl was the WAC Golfer of the Year and Trenton Specht the WAC Coach of the Year.

The Indians are back in action Monday at the Maize Regional held at Wichita’s Reflectoin Ridge Golf Course.
