DODGE CITY - The Hays High baseball team picked up a pair of 8-2 wins Thursday at Demon Field. Garrett Wellbrock pitched a complete game in the opener with seven strikeouts. The Indians (7-1) scored seven in the first in game two.
Game 1: Hays 8, Dodge City 2
Garrett Wellbrock threw his second complete game of the season holding Dodge City to a pair of runs over seven innings in a 8-2 win in game one.
Hays took the lead in the second on a Will Cadoret double that scored Bradyn Dreher from second. Hays added an additional run in the inning for a 2-0 lead.
Highlights
The Red Demons pulled within a run at 2-1 in the fourth inning, but was never closer.
The Indians added four runs in the sixth, three off the bat of Dalton Dale on a three run double, and two in the seventh, both on a Noah Weimer single, for the 8-2 difference.
Noah Weimer, Jack Fields, and Dalton Dale all recorded two hits in the game.
Wellbrock has struck out eight and walked one in each of his three starts on the season.
Game 2: Hays 8, Dodge City 2
Hays sent ten to the plate and scored seven in the first inning of game two seizing control of the contest. The Red Demons scored single runs in the second and third inning.
Hays added a single run in the third for their game total.
Highlights
Dylan Dreiling, Brayden Dreher, Blake Schmidt, and Jack Fields all recorded at least one RBI in the seven run first. The Indians only additional run came on a run scoring double by Fields in the third. It was his second double of the game, totaling four runs driven in.
Blake Schmidt takes the win going four innings, striking out six. Dylan Dreiling struck out four in two innings. Bradyn Dreher worked the seventh, striking out three. The three pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts.

Hays improves to 7-1 and 6-1 in conference play. Dodge City drops to 3-6 and 1-2.
The Indians are off for a week, when they travel to Great Bend for a single game.
