Janis Maureen Baker

Janis Maureen Baker, 88, Hays, died Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Rush County Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 11, 1933, in Scott City, the daughter of Maurice and Ruby (Couch) Liggett.  Janis was salutatorian of her class at Syracuse High School and received a music scholarship to the University of Kansas.  On July 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Lyle Baker in Syracuse.  They were blessed with four children. For most of her life, she was a resident of Syracuse and was a member of the Syracuse Methodist Church.  Janis was a homemaker and the rock of her family.  She enjoyed visiting with friends, playing bridge, and helping with organizations her children were in.  Later in life, Janis received much joy from her great grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters: Debra Creamer and Cindy Dickey, both of Hays, a son: Scott Baker (Karen) of Argonia, a sister: Delores Miller of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, two grandchildren: Chelsea Dickey (Bill Werth) and Joshua Creamer (Phoenix Hobdell), and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle, a daughter: Shelby Baker, and two grandsons: Jordan Schreurs and Colton Lane.

There will be private family services and inurnment will be in Mt. Allen Cemetery.
