PLAINVILLE ā€“ The TMP-Marian Monarchs put an end to their five-game losing streak against the Plainville Cardinals and won their second straight game Friday night in Plainville 20-13.

The Monarchs opened the football game on offense and the Monarchs overcame a handful penalties and put together a 12-play drive that was capped off with a 31-yard Jace Wentling field goal to give TMP a lead with 6:13 to play in the first quarter.

On Plainvilleā€™s opening drive came to an abrupt end on a fumble, their first of three turnovers in the game. But TMP was unable to take advantage and gave the ball back to Plainville with a short field.

Plainville was able to put together a 31-yard drive that resulted in a 18 yard touchdown pass from Ethan Hamilton to Parker Krobe. But Krobe missed the extra point as Plainville took a 6-3 just second into the second quarter.

After TMP lost a fumble in on their next drive Plainville gave it right back on a turnover on downs.

The Monarchs used the short field to their advantage covering 43 yards in just a minute and a half with Kade Harris scoring on a 20-yard touchdown run that, with the extra point, put TMP up 10-6.

Late in the second quarter the Monarchs were to get back into field range after a roughing the passer penalty with no time on the clock. Wentling connected on his second 31-yard field goal to give TMP a 13-6 halftime lead.

 In the third quarter TMPā€™s Bryce Seib returned an interception 44 yards for a touchdown giving TMP a 20-6 lead.

Plainville was able to get on the board in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 20-13 but the Monarchs were able to get an interception and forced a turnover on downs late in the game securing the TMP victory.

Game highlights

TMP quarterback Kade Harris completed 7-of-16 passes for 130 yards.

Plainvilleā€™s Kyle Werner rushed for 155 yards on 21 carries.

The Monarchs improved to 2-1 with the win while Plainville dropped to 1-2.

TMP hosts Syracuse next week for homecoming and their 2A district opener.
