
Frances A. Wendler, 94, died Monday, March 14, 2022, at Reflection Living of Dodge City.
She was born September 1, 1927, in Ness County, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Anna (Fercking) Coker. She was a graduate of Ness City High School and was the Secretary for the Superintendent of Ness City Schools.
She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Altar Society both in Dodge City. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and sewing.
On May 18, 1948, she married Chester “Curly” Wendler at Ness City. They then moved to Dodge City and operated several taverns including Curly’s Tavern. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1985.
Survivors include: 2 daughters, Vickie Waddell and husband Robert, Dodge City; Michelle Frazier and husband Leon, Dodge City; her son, Frank Wendler, Garden City; 2 brothers, Walter Lee Coker, Topeka and Doug Coker, Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Margaret Rohr, Neosho, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Don, Martin, John and Raymond Coker and 4 sisters, Helen Schrader, Reba Kolbeck, Phyllis Schuette and Shirley Stein.
Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Friday, March 18, 2022, at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Saturday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City with Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. Visitation will be Friday from noon to 7:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel.
