As the top provider of specialized care in western Kansas, HaysMed and Pawnee Valley Community Hospital have a responsibility to advocate for our patients and ensure they receive the care they need—when and where they need it.
Every day, more than 1,500 team members across our 30 locations work together to provide the essential services, skilled doctors, and unique resources our communities depend on.
To ensure that we can continue to provide this care, HaysMed and Pawnee Valley Community Hospital are currently negotiating our contracts with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) to secure fair and sustainable agreements that keep pace with rising healthcare costs.
Since 2020, hospital costs have increased 27.5%, while BCBSKS has increased payments by only 1% to 2% each year.
As the largest health insurance company in the state, BCBSKS has a responsibility to fairly reimburse the hospitals that care for our communities so we can continue providing the essential services patients rely on.
Patients with BCBSKS commercial plans may be impacted by these negotiations. They will receive direct communication from HaysMed as negotiations progress and can find additional information at www.HaysMed.com/BuiltForRuralHealthcare.
This will not affect patients with Medicare or Healthy Blue Medicaid insurance through BCBSKS.We’re hopeful that BCBSKS will come to the table with a commitment to fair payment, allowing BCBSKS-insured patients to continue their in-network access to HaysMed and Pawnee Valley Community Hospital.

- Termination Date: Thursday, December 31, 2026 – if we do not reach an agreement by this date, HaysMed and Pawnee Valley Community Hospital will be out-of-network for patients with BCBSKS insurance. They may face higher out of pocket costs or lose access to their doctor.
