HAYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State head golf coach Jerol DeBoer announced the signing of two student-athletes that will join the Tiger squad in the 2023-24 season. Corbyn Marquess from Plainville, Kan. and Hayden York from Tonganoxie, Kan. have both signed letters of intent to attend FHSU in the fall.
Corbyn Marquess earned a trio of first team All-State honors her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons at Plainville High School before playing on the Fall Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour during her senior season in 2022. She placed in the top five at the KSHSAA Class 3-2-1A State Tournament all three years, finishing second in 2020, fourth in 2021 and fifth in 2019. She recorded 15 tournament victories in her high-school career. Marquess finished in the top 20 in the points standings on the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour this fall, earning a chance to compete in the Red River Challenge. She is also heavily involved in other activities, competing in both softball and track and field at Plainville while also participating in National Honor Society, band and STUCO while serving as class president.
Hayden York won the 2021 KSHSAA Class 4A State Championship, one of two All-State honors for the Tonganoxie native. She wrapped up her high-school career with a third-place finish at state this fall. York finished runner-up at the regional meet in 2021 and 2022. She captured 10 tournament victories during her time as a Chieftain, including six-straight wins in 2021. York placed in the top 10 at every meet during her senior season. She set the school scoring record with an average of 79 as a junior and recorded a low round of 75 in high school.
