The City of Hays has announced that the ARC Park playground, 3300 Hillcrest, will be temporarily closed to the public beginning Monday, April 20 through Friday, April 24 for routine maintenance and preservation of the playground's safety surface.
During this closure, work crews will be resealing the playground’s rubber fall zone.
A specialized binding material will be applied to the surface to prevent flaking, maintain optimal safety standards, and significantly extend the life of the playground surface.
"Maintaining the high quality and safety of ARC Park is a top priority," said Jeff Boyle, director of parks for the City of Hays. "By resealing the rubber fall zone now, we are ensuring that this inclusive and vital community space remains safe, durable, and ready for families to enjoy. We appreciate the public's patience while this work is completed."
The application of the binding material is expected to take approximately one day, with additional days required for the surface to completely dry and cure.
For the safety of the public and to ensure the material sets properly, the playground area must remain completely clear of foot traffic until the barricades are removed.
The playground is expected to reopen for normal use on Friday, April 24, weather permitting.
