Woman hospitalized after wind blows semi over on I-70

GOVE COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just before 8:30p.m. Friday in  Gove County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2023 Peterbilt semi driven by William Alvarez, 50, Winter Haven, Florida, was westbound in the right lane of Interstate 70 one mile west of Kansas 23 highway.

A gust of wind from severe weather in the area caused the vehicle to tip onto the passenger side. The semi came to rest partially in the roadway and partially on the KDOT guard rail.

EMS transported a passenger 40-year-old Zurumy Sanchez Avila to Gove County Medical Center. The KHP did not report where she lived.  Alvarez was not injured. Sanchez Avila was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
