The Hays High girls wrestling team will open the season ranked fourth as a team with four individuals ranked in the top six in the 5-6A preseason coaches poll released this week.
After finishing runner-up, with a record of 32-6, senior Sara Zimmerman is ranked second at 110 pounds. Wichita North’s Larrisa Garcia, who beat Zimmerman in the championship match last season is ranked first.
At 145 pounds junior Lexi Burton is ranked fourth to open the season. Burton finished sixth at 143 last year.
Junior’s Addison Otte and Katie Gutierrez were ranked fifth at 120 and 130 pounds respectively.
Otte and Gutierrez were both state qualifiers a year ago.
The Hays High girls open their season Dec. 2 at Valley Center.
