Peggy Jo Cooley, 77, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at her home in Healy, KS. She was born on January 5, 1946, in Dighton, KS, to Leonard George & Lillian Mary (Hunsley) Burnett. She was the youngest of five girls and one brother.

Peggy grew up in Dighton, where she was active in 4-H all through high school. She enjoyed music and gymnastics. Peggy graduated from Dighton High School in 1964.

On June 21, 1964, she married Archie G. Cooley in Dighton. Through the years, they lived in Norton, Shields, Dighton, and Ulysses. In 1974, they moved to Healy.

Peggy was a busy housewife, but she also worked outside of the home at Dighton Sale Barn, Healy Grocery deli department and the school cafeteria in Healy.

She was a member of the Healy Methodist Church and enjoyed taking care of children in the nursery. She also enjoyed water skiing, gardening, sewing, and quilting. She made quilts for her children and grandchildren out of old family clothes. She loved dancing, singing, and listening to country music. Everyone enjoyed watching her and Archie dance. They seldom missed a dance in the area.

She is survived by her three children, Calvin Cooley of Arvada, CO, Jody Cooley of Garden City, KS, and Selena and Rod Dusek of Cawker City, KS; two sisters, Betty Terhune of Dighton, and Elsie Pitts of Manhattan, KS; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Archie on November 7, 2010; her parents, her two sisters, Mary Moore and Sarah Fuller, her brothers, Leonard Burnett, Jr. and an infant.

The funeral service will be held Monday, May 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Healy Methodist Church with Reverend Bud Tuxhorn officiating. The service will be on the church’s Facebook page. Burial will be in Healy Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton.
