Soaking rains push Hays ahead of average rainfall amount for year

The welcome rain in Hays this week has pushed the city ahead of its cumulative moisture average amount through October by nearly an inch.

The official measurement of rain on Thursday in Hays was 1.81 inches at the K-State Agricultural Research Center south of town. The Eagle Media Center, 2300 Hall, received 1.88 inches.

As of Oct. 2, Hays has received 2.93 inches of rain for the month, exceeding the average total for the month of 2.18 inches.

So far this year, 23.45 inches of moisture has been measured. The 159-year accumulative average by the end of October is 22.50 inches.

The three-day weather forecast calls for sunshine and warmer temperatures into the lower 70s.
