SALINA - For the 20th-consecutive season, the Hays High girls' golf team has qualified for state. The Indians shot a 389 and finished third at Monday's Salina Sub-State at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
The top three teams and top 10 individuals all qualify for next week's 5A State Tournament at the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
Kapaun Mt. Carmel had five of the top six individual finishers and ran away with the team title, shooting a 292. Newton finished second with a 384, five strokes better than the Indians.
Kinley Pfannenstiel shot an 89 and finished seventh and was the lone medalist for Hays.
Kapaun's Ximena Sarinana shot a 2-under par 68 and won the individual title by one shot over Newton's Naomi Koontz.
