KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Cooper Sanders and Jack Weimer both drove in four runs and Greg Hughes pitched a complete game to lead the Hays High baseball to a 14-4 run-rule win over St. Mary's Academy in Friday's seventh place game of the Butch Foster Memorial Baseball Tournament at Legends Field.
The win snapped the Indians (8-6) five-game losing streak. They finished 1-2 in the tournament hosted by Bonner Springs High School.
After both teams scored a run in the first, Hays blew ip open with an 11 run second. The Indians sent 15 batters to plate and had five singles, a double, four walks, a hit batter along with an error.
Sanders went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot and Weimer 2-for-2 with a double batting ninth. Will Cadoret also had two hits and like Weimer scored three runs.
Hughes allowed only three hits in the game game called after five innings by run-rule with two of the four runs unearned. He struck out three while walking four.
Hays High will host their own Western Plains Diamond Classic beginning Thursday at HHS.
