Arlene Ruth Schamaun, 89, passed away February 2, 2021, at Hays Medical Center. She was born July 21, 1931, at Bazine to George & Eva (Hettinger) Strecker. She married Loren Dale Schamaun April 29, 1951, at Bazine.
Coming from San Diego, Calif. in 1963, Arlene was a Great Bend resident. She co-owned the Ralph Wallace Buffet in Great Bend for 15 years and then worked for Rowland's Gift Store for 21 years. She then spent many years volunteering for many different organizations in Great Bend. Arlene enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and was very talented. She especially loved being with her family. She was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include, her husband, Loren Schamaun of the home; a son, Steven Schamaun and wife Sheryl, and a daughter, Marsha Gerstner, all of Great Bend; a sister, Rachel Stieben of La Crosse; five grandchildren, Emily Gerstner and companion Mike Jobe, Matthew Gerstner and wife Danielle, Adam Gerstner and wife Hillary, Zachary Schamaun and wife Lauren, and Nicholas Schamaun and companion Valerie McAtee; and seven great grandchildren, Audrey Schamaun, Rowan Schamaun, Sylvie Schamaun, Jackson Gerstner, Koby Gerstner, Collins Gerstner, and Keely Gerstner. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lawrence Strecker and Waldimore Strecker; and four sisters, Martha Murphy, Hermine Ries, Mildred Foos and Hilda Rein.
Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Friday, February 5, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2021, at First Christian Church in Great Bend, with Pastor Josh Leu presiding. Masks and social distancing are preferred for all services. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to First Christian Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
