
Alfred Henry “Fritz” Sauer, 97, died Wednesday October 27, 2021, at St.
Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born January 7, 1924, in Antonino, Kansas, the son of Anton George and Pauline (Rupp) Sauer.
Fritz grew up on the family farm near Antonino, Kansas until his
enlistment into the US Navy at the age of 17. He proudly served in WWII
and upon his honorable discharge he worked in the shipyards of Alabama
for a short time. He moved to Garden City and worked with his brother in
construction before starting his own company (Fritz Sauer
Construction). It was here that he met his future wife of 70 years.
Fritz and Carolyn were married August 2, 1949, in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Fritz built many custom homes, schools, storefronts, and prominent
structures in Garden CIty and Southwest Kansas. Later in his career he
had the privilege of working for Winger Cattle Company in Johnson,
Kansas until his retirement. He was well known for his perfection, work
ethic, values, and integrity. Fritz enjoyed hunting, fishing, and
spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters Patty Carr of Waco, Texas and Deb Foltz
of Garden City, Kansas; four grandchildren, and thirteen
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife-
Carolyn (Goodin) Sauer, brothers- IA Sauer, and Joe Sauer, and
sisters-Irene Leiker, Katie Dodson, and Albertine Stewart.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am Monday November 29, 2021, at
Steven’s Park in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. Randy Caddell
officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States
Navy Honor Guard and the District #8 American Legion Honor Guard.
