HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs returned to action Tuesday night for the second night in a row to take on the Russell Broncos, and once again the Monarchs came away with a doubleheader sweep.
GIRLS: TMP 68, Russell 36
The TMP Lady Monarchs used a 22-7 run in the first half as
they built an early lead and cruised to a double-digit, 68-36 win over the
Russell Broncos Tuesday night.
Fresh off her game-winning shot the night before, Claire Schippers opened the game for TMP (12-6 & 6-1 MCL), scoring five of the first points, putting TMP up 8-4.
Leading 11-6, TMP’s Hannah Rose scored nine straight, including a four-point play, and Paige Koenigsman added a three-pointer to close out the first quarter with TMP leading 20-8.
Koenigsman added a second three-pointer, opening the second quarter as the Monarchs outscored Russell 13-5 for a 33-13 team lead.
The Monarchs led by 19 at halftime, 35-16.
TMP added a 12-6 run to open the second half over the first three and a half minutes of the third quarter for a 47-22 lead.
TMP, with a running clock, closed out a 68-36 victory.
Cliare Schippers led TMP with 16 points. Brynn Rebel added a career-high 15 points, and Hannah Rose finished with 12.
BOYS: TMP 72, Russell 43
The TMP boys used a 23-1 run in the second half and made a
season-high 14 three pointers, on their way to a 72-43 win over the Russell Broncos
Tuesday at Al Billinger Fieldhouse.
TMP (14-5 & 7-0 MCL) jumped out to an early 7-3 lead with Ty Schmeidler connecting on his first of six three pointers in the game for an early TMP lead.
Carson Liles added seven straight first-quarter points for the Monarchs, who led 14-9 with just less than two minutes left in the opening quarter.
TMP built a 17-11 lead after the first quarter.
The Monarchs were leading by eight midway through the second quarter when Schmeidler connected on back-to-back threes, Liles added his third of the first half, and Schmeidler added one more, putting TMP up 37-19 with 30 seconds to play in the first half.
They led 37-22 at halftime.
In the second half, Russell (9-10 & 4-4 MCL) closed the gap to nine, at 41-32, before the Monarchs answered with a 23-1 run that covered four and a half minutes to close out the third quarter and open the fourth. TMP led 64-35.
With the running clock in the final moments of the game, TMP secured the 72-43 victory.
Ty Schmeidler led all scorers with 18 points, on 6-of-12 shooting from three. Carson Liles added a season-high 13 points.
TMP will host Phillipsburg on Friday night for senior night.
