LuVerne Henry Ghumm

LuVerne Henry Ghumm, age 74, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. He was born in WaKeeney, Kansas, on October 23, 1946, to William and Rose (Flax) Ghumm. LuVerne attended Trego Community High School. 

He was united in marriage to Myrna Mai on September 6, 1969. They were later divorced. To this union, four children were born, Michael, Daniel, Tabitha and Gabriel. LuVerne mostly loved being around his family, and spending time with his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, along with other ventures. Some of his hobbies included Dirt Track Racing, the scrap metal business, watching westerns and his dog, Princess. He was a member of the Eagle’s Lodge #3774, and the Knights of Columbus #4113. He was always happy to lend a helping hand and help anyone who asked. 

Survivors include his son, Michael (Karla) Ghumm, WaKeeney; daughter, Tabitha (Tom) Wynn, WaKeeney; grandchildren, Joshua Ghumm, Cody Ghumm, Cameron Ghumm, Devon Ghumm, Rachelle Wynn, Nicholas Wynn, Joseph Wynn, Matthew Ghumm, Jacob Ghumm, and Christopher Ghumm, all of WaKeeney; great-grandchildren include, Josiah Lopez, Addison Lopez, Dylan Beydler, Daxton Ghumm, Brantleigh Ghumm, Briggs Ghumm, Brogan Ghumm, Weston Huss, and Boone Ghumm, due in September; brother, Ralph (Sue) Ghumm, Missouri and sister, Marian Hanks, WaKeeney. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel and infant son, Gabriel Ghumm; brother, Verlin Ghumm; and sister, Bernice Jones. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis, Kansas, with Father Dana Clark as celebrant. Visitation and rosary will be held at the church 30 minutes prior to service. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ellis.
