TOPEKA — The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) plans to begin a bridge replacement project on U.S. 40 in eastern Wallace County the week of Oct. 26.

The bridge is located approximately two miles east of Wallace.

Crews will first construct a temporary shoofly detour to carry traffic around the work zone. Traffic is expected to shift onto the detour in December and remain there until construction is finished.

The project is scheduled to be completed in August 2027, conditions permitting. KDOT reminds motorists to stay alert, follow posted signs and refrain from using handheld mobile devices in all active work zones.

Bridges Inc., of Newton, is the primary contractor for the $2.3 million project. For more information, contact Area Construction Manager Todd Anderson at 785-953-6011 or todd.anderson@ks.gov.
