Donald “Don” Eugene Disch, age 67, of Edmond, Oklahoma, a former Hays, Kansas, resident passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Acadiana Management Group Hospital in Edmond, Oklahoma.
He was born July 22, 1958, in Spencer, Iowa, to Clayton Disch and Helen (Walton) Disch. He married Karen (Wittman) on May 10, 1980, in Hays, Kansas.
He grew up in Hays and was a 1976 graduate of Hays High School. He has spent over 20 years as an insurance agent with Liberty Mutual Group, and has lived in Edmond for 15 years. In the prior years he was in management and retail sales for 25 years with Skaggs-Osco-K&B Drugs.
He was a member of Saint Monica Catholic Church, Edmond, Oklahoma, Knights of Columbus, and was drummer in the Olmer Wittman and the Polkaneers Band.
A devout Catholic who spent his career serving others in the insurance industry, he lived out his faith through his genuine generosity and kindness.
At the center of his world was his wife, Karen; he loved her endlessly and was her spontaneous counterpart, always encouraging new adventures. Don embraced life with boundless enthusiasm, whether he was participating in numerous bicycle events across the country, keeping up with all the latest technology and gadgets, or ensuring no claw machine went unplayed to give gifts to his loved ones.
He was a dedicated diabetes advocate who traveled to Washington, D.C. to lobby Congress on behalf of the American Diabetes Association. Beyond donating his time to the organization, he also volunteered as a bicycling pacer for the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.
His legendary talent for tracking down event freebies, swag, and promotional treasures was matched only by his absolute dependability. He was the rock of his family and the very first person you would call when you got a flat tire or needed help; he was simply always there when it mattered most. Above all, he brought endless joy to his family with his unlimited supply of corny dad jokes and an unconditional devotion to doting on and spoiling his granddaughters.
Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karen Disch; his children, Bryan Disch; Logan and his wife, Michelle; Megan Everman and her husband, Zach; his grandchildren, Samaria Disch; Aria Everman;
Callie Everman; Vivienne Disch; and Gram Hearn; his brothers, John Disch; Greg Disch and wife, Debbie; his mother-in-law, Mildred Wittman; his brothers-in-law, Alan Wittman and wife, Sammy; Larry Wittman and wife, Michelle; his sisters-in-law, Wanda Krug and husband, Jeral; Brenda Schremmer and husband, Perry; a number of nieces and nephews.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Helen Disch; and his father-in-law, Olmer J. Wittman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 24, 2026, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 13th and Ash, Hays, Kansas, with Celebrant, Father Curtis Carlson O.F.M. Cap.. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Walker, Kansas.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Friday, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church.
A Vigil Service and Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.
