KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After going off for a career-high 32 points against the second-ranked team in the country, Fort Hays State's Katie Wagner has been named the first MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week of the 2023-24 season, announced Wednesday by the league office. This is the fourth weekly honor of Wagner's career.

The junior helped the Tigers to a pair of wins during the first weekend of the season, averaging 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Wagner recorded the 23rd double-double of her career in a 16-point Tiger victory over Minnesota State, the second-ranked team in Division II according to both national preseason polls. She totaled 32 points, surpassing the 30-point plateau in a game for the second time in her career, on 9-of-18 shooting. She got to the free-throw line 19 times, knocking down 13 from the charity stripe. The Maize, Kan. native added 12 rebounds, including four offensive boards, and distributed five assists in the win.

The guard opened the season with a 10-point, four-rebound performance against Minot State where she was a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor. Through one week of the regular season she ranks third in the MIAA in scoring (21.0 ppg) and fourth in field-goal percentage (57.1 percent).

The Tigers will continue non-conference play next week in the Mile High City when they travel to take on Colorado Mesa on Sunday (Nov. 19, 3 p.m. CT, Lakewood, Colo.) and MSU Denver on Monday (Nov. 20, 3 p.m. CT, Denver).
