
Bryan Tate Barnett was born in Hays, KS on December 23, 1964, to Bill
& Sondra (Wark) Barnett. He went home to be with the Lord at the age
of 56, on November 14, 2021, at the University Medical Center in El
Paso, TX.
Bryan grew up on a farm north of Gem, KS and learned the principals of
hard work and family values. He worked for a number of farmers around
this area. He graduated from Colby High School. He had a passion for
flying and earned his private pilot’s license at the age of 16. After
graduation, he moved to Florida, working in food service while he
attended F.I.T. flight school. He served in the U.S. Marines and
afterward, stayed and worked as a salesman in North Carolina. He was
also involved in street ministry while there.
He returned to Kansas and married Lori Homer in 1995. He became a father
to her two sons and two more sons were born to this union.
Following the death of his father, Bryan and two of his brothers became the pastors at Christian Heritage Church in Liberal, KS.
Bryan worked in the construction business, jointly forming Barnett Home
Improvements with two of his brothers. As a man of vision, he helped to
create many attractive renovations. He was a general contractor and
built several houses. He had a trucking business that was growing at the
time of his passing.
Bryan was very involved in ministry of any kind. He was an ordained
minister of the Pentecostal Holiness. He served as Youth Pastor in both
Word of Life Church in Liberal, KS and Seeds of Hope Church in Sublette,
KS. He was involved with the Ministerial Alliance in Liberal and was
the first Police Chaplain there. Bryan loved music and was the sound and
lighting technician for many different groups & bands. He was the
director of the Light House Ministry & performed and directed
worship sets, block parties and other Christian events. One of his
favorite ministry outlets was the Tribe of Judah Motorcycle Ministry and
he served as president of the El Paso, TX branch. He held a full patch
with them.
Bryan was a free spirit who colorfully wrote his own story, filling each
chapter of his life to the fullest. His adventures were defined by his
larger-than-life personality, his sense of humor and his giving heart.
He took on the role of father & mentor to many in his life, with a
determination to help, and with a passion to share his abiding faith in
God. He was a devoted and faithful Christian and an active member of
Grace Christian Center in El Paso.
Bryan was preceded in death by his father Bill; grandparents, Ralph and
Velma Barnett and Lawrence and Hulda Wark and step-son Mitchel Franz.
He is survived by his wife Carmen, of El Paso; sons, Elijah (Ashley)
Barnett, Moses Lake, WA and Joshua Barnett, Moses Lake, WA; his mother
Sondra Dahl and step-father Jay Dahl, Rexford, KS; his brothers, Todd
(Mandy) Barnett, Azle, TX, Scott (Vicki) Barnett, Wichita, KS and Cory
(Tessy) Barnett, Liberal, KS; his sister Shalom (Jason) Schuldt, Pretty
Prairie, KS; stepsons, Luis Alberto (Magda Loya), Chihuahua, Mexico,
Jorge Alejandro (Anahi Loya), Chihuahua, Mexico and Matthew (Rachel)
Franz, Moses Lake, WA; stepdaughter Laura Rocio (Alredo Garcia),
Chihuahua, Mexico; step-siblings, Tina (Jon) Anderson, Goodland, KS, Tim
Dahl, Rexford. KS and Linda (Bob) Dunn, Topeka, KS; 24 nieces &
nephews, 13 great nieces & nephews, many extended family members,
and a host of friends.
Celebrations to honor Bryan’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. MST,
Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, at Grace Christian Center in El Paso, TX, and
at 10:30 a.m. CST, Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at College Drive Assembly of
God in Colby, KS. His final resting place will be beside his father at
Beulah Cemetery in Colby. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
