The Hays High softball team picked up a pair of run-rule wins in Dodge City Thursday, 11-1 and 16-1. The Indians allowed only two hits in each game as they extend their winning streak to six and improve to 6-2 and 4-0 in Western Athletic Conference play.
The Indians continue WAC play Tuesday with a single game at Garden City Tuesday.
Game 1: Hays 11, Dodge City 1 (5 innings)
Jaylee Summers was dominant in the circle, striking out 11 and allowing only two hits with one walk over five innings.
Hays scored four runs in the top of the, two on errors and the other two on a passed ball and wild pitch. They added four more in the second, two off errors, one on a dropped third strike and the other on a groundout.
Shae Augustine had an RBI double in the Indians three run fifth. The other two runs scored on one of the Red Demons eight errors.
The Indians drew 10 walks and stole eight bases in the game.
Game 2: Hays 16, Dodge City 1 (4 innings)
Jaylee Summers had two of her team-high three hits in the Indians nine run first inning. She added another single in the fourth and drove in three runs, Brynlee Rupp and Avery Raymer both had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Indians to their sixth-straight win.
The Indians sent 13 to the plate in the first, collecting eight hits and a walk. They added a run in the second on an Adalie Kippes singled down the left field line. They pushed two more across in the third on an Augustine groundout and Brynlee Brous double to right field.
Raymer allowed one run on two hits with six strikeouts and no walks in the four inning complete game victory.
Hays collected 18 hits in the game. Only seven of their 16 runs were earned thanks to seven Dodge City errors.
