The dodo is popularly known as the Icon of Extinction. This large flightless bird went extinct because of the activity of sailors and explorers at the end of the 1500s but so much about it remains a mystery.
Hit the high seas of the 1600’s. It is the Age of Exploration and the Sternberg Museum of Natural History invites you to discover the dodo, a large flightless bird commonly known as the Icon of Extinction.
"Exploring Extinction: The Dodo" is a family friendly exhibition that will transport guests 400 years in the past to the tropical island that was home to the dodo.
Learn how the dodo lived, and why it died. Explore what other animals are now at risk of extinction, and what can be done to help.

"Exploring Extinction: The Dodo" was built by Silver Plume Exhibitions and features original artwork by Julius Csotonyi, Alexandra Lefort, Gary Staab and William Stout.
