
Hays Fire Department
At 3:28 a.m. on December 22, the Hays Fire Department was dispatched to 210 W. 6th Street for a reported structure fire.
Hays Police Department Officers were first on scene and reported a fully engulfed small residential apartment and that the occupant was outside.
Hays Fire Department arrived on scene at 3:33 a.m. and reported a working fire and started an offensive attack using a 1 ¾” attack line. Fire crews knocked down most of the fire from the outside before making entry into the apartment to finish extinguishing the fire. When more firefighters arrived, another 1 ¾” attack line was deployed to help extinguish remaining fire in the second story. The fire was quickly brought under control.
One person was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. No firefighters were injured.
Fire crews stayed on scene until 6:30 a.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A total of 24 firefighters responded. The Hays Fire Department was assisted by the Ellis County Fire Department, Ellis County EMS, Midwest Energy, and the Hays Police Department.
