The Hays City Commission will hear a proposal this afternoon for issuance of industrial revenue bonds for the Grow Hays microfactory project which is now substantially complete.

The $3.78 million facility, east of Commerce Parkway on East Ninth, is expected to open early next year.

Industrial revenue bonds will provide a sales tax exemption for materials related to the project and will provide a property tax abatement for a period of up to 10 years.

The bonds do not count against the city’s debt limit, nor affect its debt rating, and do not require taxpayer commitment.

The 30,000-square-foot flexible manufacturing building is designed as an economical path of entry for manufacturing startups to expand their businesses.

During their work session, commissioners will also hear the annual financial report from the Hays Recreation Commission and a request for pool operations reimbursement.

The commission will also review to vehicle abatements.

The Dec. 12 work session agenda is available here.

The meeting starts at 4 p.m. in Hays City Hall.
