Io Jaqueline Kirkwood

Io Jaqueline Kirkwood, 96, Garfield, Kansas, died Saturday, July 4, 2020, at her home.

Mrs. Kirkwood was born February 7, 1924, in Preston, Kansas, the daughter of John George and Hattie C. (Freymiller) Schlenz.  She was a lifelong resident of Pawnee, Kansas.  Mrs. Kirkwood attended a one room school, and graduated in 1941.  She was a homemaker and farm wife.

She was a member of the Kinsley Baptist Church, Kinsley, Kansas.

On February 10, 1945, she married Lester James Kirkwood, Jr. at the Methodist Church, Turon, Kansas.  He preceded her in death March 27, 1989.

Survivors include:  six sons, Robert David Kirkwood (Lucy), Clyde, Texas, Aaron Paul Kirkwood (Nancy), Garfield, Kansas, Stephen John Kirkwood (Jane), Kinsley, Kansas, Lester Lauren Kirkwood (Kristi), Yoder, Kansas, Timothy Gene Kirkwood (Veronica), Sadler, Texas, and Kerry Lynn Kirkwood (Carla), Cedar Park, Texas; three daughters, Karen Ann Freeman (David), Clearwater, Florida, Dierdre Lou Tidwell (Phillip), Ault, Colorado, and Sherry Jean McGee, Kansas City, Missouri; 30 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; and one sister, Wilma Fisher, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Robert Schlenz; one sister, Pauline Salzer; and one step sister, JoAnn McCowan.

Because of the current challenges the world is facing at the present time, the family will host a Celebration of Life in the future, to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the Kinsley Baptist Church, Kinsley, Kansas.
